Persuasive Presentation Slides

Q Instructions: Each student will create a persuasive presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint on their approved HR topic or procedure from last week (if not yet approved, check feedback and/or contact instructor). The presentation should seek to persuade someone the value or importance of the HR topic or procedure the student describes, so each student should select their topic carefully based on that requirement. The student should assume the role of an HR consultant and put together the presentation in a way so as to try to convince executive team members (i.e. Chief Human Resources Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, etc.) as to the importance of the topic and the reasons the topic should be implemented or embraced in an organization. Slide shows should be 6-10 slides long (not counting any intro slides, summary slides, or slides asking for questions). APA citations and sources are not required for this assignment. Unlike the Article Review Paper, I cannot provide a sample presentation (please see this FAQs explanation below). I will give you all a great deal of leeway in creating this presentation. You can be creative and imaginative with your design (but you must keep it in PowerPoint). You can be creative and imaginative with the organization you are presenting to. You can make up the organization or use an existing one. You can be creative and imaginative with the situation you are addressing in the organization. Remember also that this is not a typical research presentation. A Persuasive Presentation requires that you take a stance and make a recommendation on a specific idea. At a minimum slide shows should include the following: > Slide introducing the speaker (the student). > Slide(s) introducing and explaining the basics of the topic, i.e. what is it, why do we need to do it, what problems does it solve, what are the alternatives, etc. All of these do not need addressed, these are just ideas of what could be included. > Slide(s) containing 2-3 pros of implementing or embracing the importance of the topic or method the student recommends. > Slide(s) at least 1 con of implementing or embracing the topic or method (no matter how good or how ethical or how morally correct the suggestion is there are always cons to implementing new ideas and it is best to address them early!), along with a suggested way for an organization to overcome, or at least minimize, the impact of the con. > Slide(s) that explain how an organization could or should implement or embrace the recommendation. What it would look like in practice in an organization. > A conclusion slide which includes a 'call to action' for an organization. In other words, this slide should wrap up your presentation and ask the organization to accept your recommendations. I often get asked for a sample Persuasive Presentation, so I want to explain why I do not provide a sample for this particular assignment. Unlike the Article Review Paper, which is highly standardized in its formatting, the Persuasive Presentation requires a great deal of originality and creativity in order to create and produce it. Therefore, each student's presentation will look very much different from the next. However, when I have provided samples for this assignment in the past, I have found that many students simply mirrored my sample presentation as closely as they could. This does not achieve the purpose of the assignment which is to create a unique persuasive presentation for your unique situation and topic presented. I have no doubt that each of you have the potential within you to create your own unique presentation and I am looking forward to seeing your creation at the end of this week! Extra Credit: If any student would like extra credit, I will give between 3-5 points of extra credit to any student who records themselves giving their presentation in a persuasive manner (in other words you can't just read it, you must actually 'present' it) and submits it to me through Canvas email. I will give 3 points for an audio recording of the presentation and 5 points for a video recording of the presentation. Recorded presentations are due to me via Canvas email only NLT August 1st in order to receive extra credit. PreviousNext
